Additional Resources

If you're thinking about making the leap to enter into the wide world of woodworking (WWWW?) I've compiled a list of helpful places on the web that should offer some guidance and instruction. A good start is to find your local guild or club; here in Milwaukee I have the Wisconsin Woodworker's Guild.

Projects and How-To's

These are the sites I frequent for project ideas and plans. Woodworking for Mere Mortals (WWMM) is my favorite resource as Steve Ramsay keeps the projects fairly simple and he provides the plans for most projects.
When planning your next project, skip the big box stores and find your local lumber yard. Pine is a fine choice for many projects, but many more will be much better being made from a hardwood like maple or walnut which you won't find at Depot or Lowe's. Your local Woodcraft and Rockler should have some wood in stock for smaller projects though.
Some tools you will buy, some you can make. When possible, make your own jigs as it will be exactly what you want. Lee Valley supplies both excellent tools and a wide array of hardware for nearly any project. SketchUp is a software tool that can help in planning your projects and sharing the plans online.
